From the best-selling author of The Enemy Series comes the action-packed and utterly gripping, The Red Cobra

Carl Logan dedicated nearly twenty years of his life to the Joint Intelligence Agency. Now living in a secret location, under the new identify of James Ryker, he wants nothing more than to be left alone, the chance to start a new life away from chaos, violence, destruction and deceit.

It’s not long, however, before Ryker’s short-lived idyll is destroyed when he is tracked down by Peter Winter, his ex-boss at the JIA. Winter brings with him news of the murder of a woman in Spain, Kim Walker, whose fingerprints match those of one of Ryker’s former adversaries who’s been missing presumed dead for years - an infamous female assassin known as the Red Cobra.

A cyberattack at the JIA led to the Red Cobra’s profile being compromised, and Winter believes JIA agents may now be at risk too, Ryker included. But Ryker knew the elusive Red Cobra better than anyone, and when he sees the grisly pictures of Kim Walker’s corpse, he has news for Winter - she isn't the assassin at all ...

So just who is the mystery dead woman? And where is the real Red Cobra?

The Red Cobra is a fast-paced thriller filled with twists and turns and intrigue that will appeal to readers of big-hitting thrillers by the likes of Lee Child and David Baldacci, and with echoes in its plotting and breadth of the globe-trotting spy thriller I Am Pilgrim.

The Red Cobra Rob Sinclair Books

Just when I thought that Rob Sinclair couldn't improve on the excellent Enemy Series, he proved me wrong by writing Red Cobra. What an exciting and fast paced book that grabs you immediately!
Carl Logan has gone underground with his love, Lisa, and his new identity is as James Ryker. He is still the same man as before but not as rough and tough but still is a "bad boy" in many aspects. He is found by his previous employer and has to find the Red Cobra and kill her for the good of the country. We get to know the Red Cobra very well and become very sympathetic to her. Ryker has a hard time forgetting their previous affair, which ended badly. There are other characters involved and some you will like and others you will hate but all are integral to the plotline. Never a dull moment. Shocking cliffhanger.
Outstanding spy thriller, which will no doubt be made into a huge movie! Loved it!! If you can, please read the first three novels to better understand Ryker but it is not necessary to this book. You will want to read them afterwards regardless.

The Red Cobra Rob Sinclair Books Reviews

The book set me up to have expectations that it failed to meet. I hate plots that rely on the introduction of a completely new variable in the last five pages to make it all come out straight. I mean really - a previously unknown sister? Come on.
James Ryker is also a very uneven hero. He's portrayed as an arrogant sexist boor until he suddenly goes all gentle and self reflective. He's also described as some kind of superhero, yet he gets outright, out thought and out maneuvered throughout the book. I just never really cared about what happened to him or really anyone else in the story.
The writing is uneven throughout. It veers from being very solid to quite weak, poorly paced and developed. Sorry, but I won't be moving on any further with this series.
This is an interesting diversion. Not great literature, but a very workmanlike effort that is entertaining at times. Marginally worth reading another installment in the series. Sinclair has a long way to go before the James Ryker character reaches the heights of a Jack Reacher or Mitch Rapp or Harry Bosch or any of the other heroes who can hold our attention for a dozen or more novels. I'm more than willing to give him another shot to see if Ryker will become more engaging as a complete human being rather than a graphic novel character.

The plot is also flawed. Some of the other characters have no shading. They are too obvious and, as such, they make very predictable who are the good guys and who are the bad guys. Furthermore, some of the key figures in the story are totally unbelievable. This first installment is at best a 3.5 star book but with some potential to improve. Most three and a half star books, I'd put down without finishing. So maybe in Ryker, Sinclair has created someone who has the potential to become more interesting and relate-able, especially in a better story with more believable characters surrounding him.
Fast pace, plenty of action, compelling storyline. This book has Russian mobsters, a hero undercover operative, a bit of romance, and a dark Andalusian backdrop of corporate wrongdoing coupled with human trafficking. I read it in two sittings, and not because I had the time. I didn't want to put it down. You won't either
A government-sanctioned spy/assassin/agent who worked for an acronym agency “retires.” Sound familiar?

Let’s posit the possible secret agent storyline and tropes She/he goes into hiding and 1) lives alone in relative peace, in an isolated but heavily fortified house, 2) lives as described but with a dog, or 3) lives with another “retired” spy/assassin/agent from a rival acronym agency.

Eventually secret agent(s) will be found by 1) foreign enemy acronym agency, 2) hired assassins sent by someone they’ve killed, crossed, thwarted, 3) ex-friends gunning for revenge, 4) a spy/assassin/agent they thought they’d killed but obviously hadn’t killed, or 5) their own acronym agency that needs them for “one more job.”

Positing our plucky agent(s) aren’t killed by first contact, she/he/they decide(s) to un-retire and take care of whatever matter their unwelcome visitor(s) brought to their doorstep.

Agent(s) go back into action to 1) kill someone(s) 2) stop a murderer or assassin, 3) destroy the mafia/mob/drug-pushers/nation-destabilizers, 3) prevent a horrific disaster scenario, 4) save the world from annihilation, 5) avenge a friend’s death, partner’s drag or dog’s death, or 6) any combination of aforementioned.

I zipped through the novel and noted that the author hit requisite high and low points. Action! Guns! Knives! Rivers of blood! Interrogations! Suspend! Killing! Maiming! Torture! Oceans of blood!

Thrillers can end in several ways. I prefer no dangling plot threads . . . or a clean ending plus an epilogue. Some readers don’t seem to mind cliffhanger endings. Which do you prefer?
The only reason I am giving this three stars is because of the ending. The book kept me interested and was exciting but the climax was disappointing. The solution to who the Red Cobra was sort of frustrated me, not a finish that I expected but to me not an acceptable finish. The sudden introduction of a whole new character (never introduced before in the book) to complete the circle didn't sit well with me.
I will continue to read books from this author as I did find this book entertaining, I just had an issue with the way the story in this book was completed.
Generally, 5 stars or 4.5 stars with hundreds of reviews ensures a decent book. This one sounded pretty good. However, shortly after starting, it became clear that this book was not proofed or edited. The grammar is terrible and despite using some larger words, the author uses bare in "more than he could bear". These glaring violations of the English language rip you right out of the story and it happens in just about every other paragraph. I haven't even been able to read enough to get to the plot, but I'm annoyed. Even if it's a great story, this lack of editing ruins it.
